As detailed in an earlier post, On May 23, the Trump Administration obtained approval by the Office of Management and Budget to implement a supplemental questionnaire for U.S. visa applicants. As detailed in an earlier post, this additional form, known as a DS-5535, will be available through the U.S. Department of State ("DOS") and applied to visa applicants who consular officers determine will warrant additional scrutiny. It is not expected to be implemented to all visa applicants.

Much of same biographical information, such as previous travel, residential and work history, is already collected on the DS-160 visa application but for a shorter time period, specifically 5 years of information rather than 15 years. Notably controversial, however, is the government's request for social media information, reproduced below:

The DS-5535 is purportedly necessary in order to provide more rigorous national security screening as part of the Trump Administration's "extreme vetting" policy for nonimmigrants and immigrants. This supplemental form will expire in 6 months on November 30, 2017, but could be extended thereafter.
