William H. Maruca was featured in the Part B News article "Halt to RAC Audits Brings Temporary Relief, but Other Auditors Loom." While the full text can be found in the March 3, 2014, issue of Part B News, a synopsis is noted below.

Despite the order that recovery auditors (RAC) cease all additional documentation requests (ADRs) by February 28, practices' claims are subject to audit by Medicare administrative contractors (MACs) and zone program integrity contractors (ZPICs), among others.

RACs were to stop sending ADRs for post-payment review by February 21 and for pre-payment review by February 28. The RACs must then give the MACs files for claims that must be adjusted by June 1. MACs use these files to issue demand requests, which trigger appeal rights for providers.

The break from one type of auditor is good for providers, says William Maruca.
