The names "Russia", "Russian Federation", "federal" and words and verbal structures based on them may only be used in company names after approval of a special commission. Apparently, the permission needs to be applied for upon registration of a new legal entity, whilst the year 2000 is set as a deadline for reviewing existing company names. Criteria which will be considered for granting approval generally relate to the possibility of confusion on the part of the general public about the size and significance of such companies.
