IIROC has published statistics indicating that unsuitable investments generate the greatest number of complaints by investors to IIROC about the firms it regulates. IIROC received 838 complaints from IIROC-regulated firms between April 1, 2014 and March 31, 2015 - 222 were unsuitable investments complaints. The majority of the suitability cases involve the elderly and/or vulnerable clients. The elderly are the largest demographic group contacting IIROC with complaints and inquiries.
IIROC has also issued confidential Complaints and Inquiries Statistics Reports to all the firms it regualtes in conjunction with the publichishing of these statistics.
