Until very recently, Canadian-based rules options for domestic arbitrations were limited and largely outdated. Now, since the beginning of 2015, there are two new options: the revised and updated Arbitration Rules of the ADR Institute of Canada and the new Canadian Arbitration Rules of the International Centre for Dispute Resolution (ICDR). Oil and gas industry participants involved in domestic arbitration will want to consider these rules when drafting arbitration provisions or engaging in their next domestic arbitration.
