Last week, the Human Society of Durham Region was worried about where it would get the funds to neuter and spay some pets that needed to be adopted. Their bookkeeper had told them that no money was available in their accounts. That same day, a young man in his early 20s walked into the shelter and dropped off an envelope. In the envelope was a bank draft for $25,000. No name was given by the donor. When asked if he wanted a receipt or some type of acknowledgment, the man told the shelter staff that he wanted to remain anonymous and just wanted to help. With his donation, two operations have already been performed and many more are scheduled for next week. These treated animals will then be ready to be adopted and go to their forever homes.

The donor had left a note in the envelope:

"Life is a lot more valuable than anything that money can buy! All I ask is that you help a stranger one day with no expectation of gain."

In our 'me-obsessed' culture, to give for the sheer sake of giving is not something often witnessed. We can learn a lot from this mysterious donor. Let's pay his generosity forward today.
