Welcome to Issue 12 of Government Matters. For those I haven't met yet, I'm Ben Dube. I've recently taken up the position of Government Practice Group Leader.

In this issue, we examine the impact of legislative changes and recent decisions, as well as provide guidance on:

  • the first award of aggravated damages by the Federal Privacy Commissioner in a determination
  • key decisions and trends that have emerged since the anti-bullying jurisdiction began under the Fair Work Act 2009 (Cth) two years ago
  • drafting a rigorous liquidated damages regime to overcome challenges that arise when obligations aren't met under Commonwealth contracts
  • managing volatile workers who may be dealing with mental health issues, and
  • the Australian National Audit Office's review of the limited tender process and the findings and recommendations from their recent audit.

I am also very pleased to announce two recent partner promotions in our Government team in Canberra—Ashley Cahif, editor of Government Matters and a leader in the governance and probity practice, and Holly McAdam, a member of our firm's major projects team.

I hope you enjoy this issue of Government Matters and I encourage you to email me with any feedback.
