January 2020 – Andriy Nikiforov, Counsel and Head of Banking, Finance & Capital Markets in Kyiv has been re-elected the Chair of the Banking, Finance and Insurance Committee of the Ukrainian Bar Association (UBA). Andriy Nikiforov will run the Committee in 2020 – 2021.
Under Andriy's leadership in 2018 – 2019, the Committee organised over ten events dedicated to some of the most topical issues in Ukraine: FX regulation, enhancement of creditors' rights protection, financial restructuring and insolvency, changes in companies law having impact on corporate approvals for financing transactions, implementation of PSD2 in Ukraine, financial monitoring, cryptocurrencies and others. The Committee's roundtables and panel discussions brought together a number of Ukrainian banking & finance law practitioners and were attended, in particular, by senior officers of the National Bank of Ukraine (including two heads of departments) and over twenty senior managers of the leading Ukrainian commercial banks.
Andriy comments on his appointment: "The Committee's activities will continue to focus on the enhancement of law and the adoption of its commercially sensitive interpretation with a view to protecting creditors' and investors' rights in Ukraine and facilitating the financing of infrastructure and other projects, including those that have environmental impact. The leadership of the Committee will work on making it an even better tool for connecting the committee members with state officials and other experts in the financial market."
The UBA is an all-Ukrainian public organisation founded in 2002. At present, the UBA has over 7,000 members, including private legal practitioners, in-house legal counsel, notaries, judges, public officials, MPs and renowned legal scholars. There are currently 24 acting UBA committees tasked with the further development of the legal profession in Ukraine, enhancement of legislation, building relationships with public authorities and contributing to governmental reforms.
