The Malta Asset Servicing  Association is delighted to announce that this year’s funds conference will be held on 3rd May 2019 at the Hilton Malta Hotel in St. Julian’s. The theme of this conference revolves around the impact of technology and innovation which will drive the next paradigm shift in the asset management industry to sustain its growth going forward.

The Conference will be addressed by the Hon. Silvio Schembri, who will speak about the importance of the financial services industry as one of the key enablers to Malta’s economic growth and the need to ensure that innovation drives the growth of the industry going forward. 

This year’s keynote speaker is Agathi Pafili, Senior Regulatory Policy Advisor within the European Fund and Asset Management Association (EFAMA). Ms Pafili, who has extensive regulatory experience, will speak about the regulatory trends in the European asset management industry and beyond and the way this will impact business and operational models. 

The Conference program also includes two panel discussions. The first panel will discuss the next wave of innovation that is needed to sustain business growth going forward. The discussion aims to identify the potential key innovations that may be introduced in the Malta’s Funds Industry within the context of the rapidly changing regulatory and operational environment as well as investor preferences. This panel will be moderated by Mr Hakon Haugnes, CFO/COO at Andurand Capital Management who will manage a panel experienced industry practitioners consisting of Mr Chris Casapinta from AlterDomus, Ms Marianne Scicluna Director General at the Malta Financial Services Authority, Mr Joseph Camilleri Executive Head at BOV Asset Management and Dr Andre Zerafa, Partner at Ganado Advocates.      

The second panel will discuss the way technology and particularly blockchain is changing the business and operational landscape in the asset servicing sector focusing on a number of use cases and the onset of new applications in the years ahead of us. This panel will be moderated by Dr Ian Gauci, Partner at GTG Advocates and will also see the involvement of Dr Gerd Sapiano,  from the MFSA, Mr Stephen McCarthy, from the Malta Digital Innovation Authority and Mr Ronald Attard, from Ernst and Young.      

The Conference will also include with presentations on the opportunities in the pensions business which will be delivered by Mr David G Curmi, CEO of MAPFRE MSV Life as well as Dr Diane Bugeja, Senior Associate at Camilleri Preziosi who will speak about the responsibilities of directors and investment committee members to ensure good corporate governance. 

All the high calibre speakers and panel members have been carefully selected to ensure that the delegates will benefit from a matrix of industry specialists operating in the audit, legal, pensions, investment management and fund administration fields by way of their years of experience in this industry.
