In early July 2017, the Knesset’s Constitution, Law and Justice Committee approved the elimination of the compulsory registration fees and periodic fees paid by database owners.
At issue is an amendment to the Privacy Protection Regulations, which regulate the method of payment for registration fees and periodic fees database owners have been required to pay to the Registrar of Databases in the Israel Law, Information and Technology Authority (ILITA), a department in the Ministry of Justice.
The elimination of the fees will come into effect already this year. This amendment is being effected within the scope of the Ministry of Justice's policy of reducing regulations and the economic burden on businesses and companies. According to the press release published by the Ministry of Justice, the elimination of the fee payments, which consumed numerous resources, will enable ILITA to enhance its supervisory and enforcement activities vis-à-vis database owners.
We note that the elimination of the fees does not release database owners from past debts.
