Guernsey has been named as the best international wealth management centre at the Wealth Adviser Awards 2016.

The awards, presented annually, recognise excellence among wealth managers and service providers from the UK and offshore jurisdictions and encompass a range of categories covering the wealth management space.

The winners were determined by votes received from Wealth Adviser's readers, including wealth managers, IFAs, fund managers, family offices, law firms, accounting firms and other industry professionals.

Following the vote to determine the 'best in class' in each category, the popular winner was subject to a final review by Wealth Adviser's senior editorial team.

Guernsey Finance Chairman Lyndon Trott said: "Guernsey has high quality people doing high quality business both within the Island and externally. As a jurisdiction, we are delighted to win this award which is in recognition of not only real substance but also a depth of knowledge acquired over many decades. These awards are won through maintaining outstanding levels of professionalism across our financial services marketplace, not over months or even years, but often lifetimes."

Guernsey reclaimed the award for best international wealth management centre this year, having previously won the award at the Wealth Adviser Awards 2014.

Guernsey Finance Chief Executive Dominic Wheatley added: "The award is recognition of a very productive year for us including the appointment of our first ever Middle East representative, our first director of international business development and the launch of our second overseas outpost in Hong Kong. Our Shanghai office has been open since 2007.

"This award is a further endorsement for Guernsey following on from the positive MONEYVAL report at the beginning of this year which evidenced the high standards that all firms in Guernsey attain in order to prevent money laundering and the financing of terrorism. It is also proof of the experience, expertise and innovation within Guernsey's successful wealth management sector."
