Transport Malta stated that Malta's aviation register has seen a record number of registered aircraft as it reached 201 listed aircraft. Since January 2015, the Authority registered a total of 49 aircraft, exceeding the total of 43 aircraft that were registered throughout the whole of last year.
The Maltese Government is currently undergoing active efforts with regards to its policy of promoting Malta as a jurisdiction for aircraft registration and a location of choice for companies who operate from the air and need a base. As stated by Transport Malta, an intensive restructuring was carried out within the Civil Aviation Directorate last year, including extensive training to key personnel as well as an intensive recruitment process after which the number of specialised inspecting personnel doubled.
Following these efforts, the Civil Aviation Directorate was left in a much better position to ensure that the highest safety and service standards required by the industry are met by Malta. Leading international operators from the sector have received Malta's efforts positively and are already choosing the island as their business location of choice.
Transport Malta CEO James Piscopo stated that the entity is set on turning Malta into a significant industry player. In fact, a further investment similar to last year's is expected to take place next year in order to strengthen other industry areas, after last year's investment resulted fruitful.
The industry has already started picking up momentum in attracting the desired business towards the island and much untapped potential remains to be explored, that could bring along much prestige, direct foreign revenue, employment and added value to the country.
