Slovakia enacted a law relating to whistleblowing and ethical hotline policies at the beginning of this year which comes into effect on 30th June.

The Act obliges employees with at least 50 employees in Slovakia to handle whistleblowing and reports of serious offences by either establishing a separate organisational unit or designating a person who will manage the hotline.

The identity of the whistleblower must be treated confidentially and there must be at least one reporting mechanism available 24/7.

The Slovakian law requires whistleblower policies for Slovakia to meet certain specific requirements including the examination of every report within 90 days after its receipt and also for employees who blow the whistle to be protected in order to support the encouragement for employees to speak out against wrong doings.
