We recently surveyed some of our clients to gain an insight into how many of them are using Patent Box now that it has been up and running for a year – the results are interesting.

More than 40% of those surveyed are using Patent Box and will continue to use it. We know of companies who have made significantly more from Patent Box than their budgeted patent spend.

About 30% of those surveyed do not intend to use Patent Box – it appears that the scheme is more easily applied in some industries than others. Some respondents are undecided about whether they will use the scheme.

Our Nick Braddon's recent article discusses some recent major changes to Patent Box. The early adopters have probably done well out of the soon to be withdrawn first incarnation of the scheme. It will be interesting to see if there is a spike in uptake before the changes in 2016, and then how its use continues beyond that.
