The CMU has introduced requirements for the quality of imported tobacco, which now must meet the standards of both the producing country and Ukraine. From now on, all tobacco sold in Ukraine must have quality certificates in accordance with Ukrainian law. Customs officials will let tobacco enter the country after verifying the quality certificate or the licence of the correspondent Ukrainian certification body. In accordance with another resolution of the CMU import of cigarettes and alcoholic beverages will be allowed only after government taxes have been paid. The carrier must submit a copy of the payment order at the border crossing verifying that customs tax, excise duty, VAT have been paid.
