The Aspen Cybersecurity Group, a leading cross-sector, public-private cybersecurity forum comprising former government officials, industry executives, and academics, recently released “An Innovation Challenge for the United States,” a report that details how the U.S. is losing its position as a global innovation leader and offers a series of recommendations for the federal government and private sector to encourage technological development.

The report explains that while the post-war structural advantages that allowed the US to dominate innovation have greatly diminished, continued innovation leadership is essential to global peace and economic prosperity.  Among the recommendations outlined are increased research funding by the federal government, the promotion of free trade and immigration, and a greater investment in education.

The group is led by O’Melveny’s Data Security and Privacy Group Co-Chair Lisa Monaco, Rep. Will Hurd, and IBM CEO Ginni Rometty.  Its membership includes executives from AIG, Apple, Facebook, Google, and Johnson & Johnson, among others.
