On the heels of the end of the comment period for input on reducing the regulatory burdens of the Physician Self-referral Law (also known as the "Stark Law") on August 24, the Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General (OIG) released its long-promised request for information on reforming the anti-kickback statutes (AKS) on August 27. The OIG is seeking feedback on ways it could adjust the implementation of the AKS to allow for better growth of coordinated care or value-based care programs. In the release, the OIG explained that it wants to build new safe harbors or modify existing ones to break down barriers to care coordination while still protecting against fraud and abuse. Comments are due October 26.
