The results from an FDIC Credit and Consumer Products Survey suggest that risk is increasing in the industry. In "Underwriting Trends and Other Highlights from the FDIC's Credit and Consumer Products/Services Survey," published in the Winter 2017 edition of Supervisory Insights, the FDIC summarized findings from a Credit Survey of risk management examiners who conducted examinations at FDIC-supervised institutions. The FDIC explained that while overall loan performance seems to be favorable, there are growing industry credit and liquidity risks. These include increased reports of (i) credit concentrations, (ii) potentially volatile funding sources and (iii) out-of-area lending.
