The U.S. Department of State announced that the Diversity Visa Lottery entry period for 2019 was closed temporarily due to a technical error.  All applicants who submitted entries between October 3-10 are not valid and have been excluded.  Anyone who submitted an entry during that period needs to resubmit their entries.  Resubmissions for this purpose will not be counted as a duplicate entry, which in other circumstances would bar selection.

The new entry period for 2019 is October 18, 2017 to noon EST November 22, 2017.  Entries must be submitted online during the new period in order to be considered for the lottery.

The Diversity Immigrant Visa Program provides up to 50,000 immigrant visas each year and are available for individuals from countries with low immigration rates to the U.S.  Interested individuals must have a high school education, its equivalent, or two years of qualifying work experience, and enter their applications during the specified window.  Applicants are then chosen through a random lottery. Although the chances of selection are relatively low, the DV Lottery proves to be life-changing for thousands of families each year.  Applicants are responsible for checking whether they were selected online through the agency-sponsored website between May 1, 2018 through at least September 30, 2019 (depending of ongoing visa availability).
