On July 14, 2017, Donah Heiberg, with the Bureau of Field Operations for the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration's Office of Health Quality Assurance gave a presentation to District X of the Florida Health Care Association. The presentation focused on the top 10 nursing home deficiencies. Those deficiencies are as follows:

  1. Tag F0441: Infection control and prevention of spread of infection
  2. Tag F0282: Services by qualified persons as required by care plans 
  3. Tag F0371: Food procurement, storage, preparation and serving in a sanitary manner
  4. Tag F0431: Drug records, labeling and storage of drugs and biologicals
  5. Tag F0309: Provision of care and services for the highest well being
  6. Tag F0253: Housekeeping and maintenance services
  7. Tag F0514: Resident records being complete, accurate and accessible
  8. Tag F0241: Dignity and respect of individuality
  9. Tag F0323: Free of accident hazards
  10. Tag F0329: Drug regimen ins free from unnecessary drugs

The presentation also discussed a dramatic increase in Legionnaire's disease in Florida nursing homes and assisted living facilities in the past year. Long term care facilities are required to take preventive measures with their water systems to prevent this. On June 9, 2017, CMS issued a revised memo to state survey agency directors regarding reducing Legionella risk.
