Venture Capital Funding for Cleantech Still Looks
Pretty Grim
The startup world at large is looking for a rebound after a down
year in 2016, but if the Brookings Institution is to be believed,
there has been little reason for optimism in the sub-market for
clean energy startups. (But this author in Entrepreneur would
certainly disagree!)
Net neutrality is a pivotal moment in a broader
movement for a healthy internet
The tables have turned on net neutrality, as Obama-era policies
enforcing equality of bandwidth among websites of different sizes
has given way to deregulation under the Trump administration's
FCC chair. If you need a refresher on why this matters to startups,
this piece in Mashable from the head of the Mozilla
Foundation is a great place to start. (More here!)
How Laws and Culture Hold Back Socially Minded
Companies
Social entrepreneurship can be a nebulous concept, because
companies fundamentally exist to turn a profit before any
considerations of social good. The B Lab is trying to change that
with its "B Corp" certification program for socially
beneficial startups, and the Harvard Business Review
studied the 2,000 B Corps worldwide to see how well their
countries' laws support the concept. A great read for
cross-border entrepreneurs especially.
