Joe Ambash and Amber Elias' article "The New Sick Leave Law:  The Devil Is in the Lack of Detail" was featured in the Boston Business Journal on May 15, 2015.

The state's new sick leave law is bearing down on employers, creating confusion and anxiety because final regulations interpreting the new law have not been issued by the state yet. What makes the situation particularly scary for employers is that because the new law is a "wage and hour" issue, violations will result in triple damages if an aggrieved employee brings suit.

Passed by voters in November, the law requires all businesses to provide 40 hours of sick leave to employees annually.  For companies with more than 10 employees, the leave must be paid.  For employers with 10 or fewer workers, sick leave may be unpaid.

In the article, Joe and Amber discuss how employers face the daunting task of complying by July 1 with a confusing law, which has draconian penalties for noncompliance, when final regulations have not even been issued.
