I'll admit it.  I don't like winter.  I don't like being cold.  I don't like shoveling the walks.  And I really hate navigating around those who can't drive in the snow.

Of course, this raises the appropriate question of why I live in Denver.   It also means I was less than thrilled to see the weather reports showing that Denver, like most of the country, is getting hit by an early blast of Arctic air than CNN describes as being "like [a] boxer's punch before the opening bell."

The silver lining?  If you live in Denver at least there won't be much snow.  If you are in the natural gas business, rising prices.

The early cold spell has been largely behind the rise in natural gas futures which advanced for the 10th straight day on the New York Mercantile Exchange.  Rising natural gas prices, coming at the same time as concern continues over the recent drop in crude oil prices, is a welcome sight.

But we shouldn't expect the upward movement in prices to last too long.  Several sources have noted that, at this point, the worst of the cold is likely already priced in.

At least in the short-term, though, rising prices are good news.  Maybe that will give me some comfort as I take the trash out tomorrow morning (when it will be about 35 degrees colder than it was this morning).
