On 1st April DECC published a Call for Evidence seeking views on the key issues arising in respect of the implementation of the Energy Third Package in Great Britain. DECC's initial view is that, in many respects, the existing energy market framework already meets the requirements of the Energy Third Package but that there are four key areas (consumer protection; National Regulatory Authorities; obligations relating to transmission and distribution systems and gas storage facilities) where action will need to be taken.
The deadline for responding to the Call for Evidence is Thursday 27 May 2010. The responses received will inform the more detailed consultation on the implementation of the Energy Third Package that DECC plans to carry out this summer.
Separately, Ofgem is due to issue a consultation on
certification of transmission system operators and DETI has already
started its consultation process on the implementation of the
Energy Third Package in Northern Ireland.
