As anticipated the European Commission made announcements on 29 April 2009 on three areas of reform, which it set out in its Communication to the European Council in early March. These reforms are part of the Commission's response to the financial crisis.

The three announcements cover:

  1. The proposed Alternative Investment Fund Managers Directive, which would require a diverse mix of fund managers (from hedge funds to commodity and real estate) to be authorised and subject to harmonised regulatory standards. Please click here to read our article on the Directive.
  2. The Commission's proposed legislation harmonising disclosure and selling rules for all retail packaged investment products. Please click here to read our article on the Commission's proposals.
  3. The Commission's Recommendation on remuneration in the financial services sector and proposed changes to the Capital Requirements Directive. Please click here to read our article on the Recommendation and the proposed changes to the Capital Requirements Directive
