We are pleased to bring you this latest version of "Brexit and Citizens' Rights: Guide for UK-based EU nationals".

All EU nationals resident in the UK will need to apply for new residence documentation in order to remain after Brexit. To facilitate the application process the UK government will be launching the EU Settlement Scheme on 30 March 2019.

This user-friendly guide helps EU nationals and their family members determine what they will need to do to remain in the UK after Brexit, and what they should be doing now to prepare. It also describes key features of the EU Settlement Scheme. For many EU nationals, applying via the EU Settlement Scheme will be a straightforward matter – however, it is far from a one-size-fits-all approach and, for some, their circumstances will mean that the process is more complex.

We are already seeing the impact of Brexit on the UK labour market. With more EU nationals leaving the UK than at any time within the last decade, the number of candidates per job vacancy is steadily decreasing across all skill levels. This means that how employers deal with the people aspects of Brexit is as much about talent retention as it is about immigration compliance. Key questions for employers to ask themselves are: what is our reliance on skills and labour from the EU and, with the ending of free movement, will we be able to replace employees who leave because of Brexit?

With this in mind, employers should start considering how they will support and reassure their employees. Open lines of communication with those affected will be critical during what will be a challenging time for many.
