On 29 May 2018 the European Parliament adopted a resolution on the revision of the rules on posting of workers. The purpose of the revision is to ensure fair competition for companies and better protection for workers who have been sent by their employers to perform services in another EU Member State on a temporary basis ('posted workers'). Under the new regime, all of the host country's remuneration rules should apply to posted workers, so that the posted workers will get equal pay for equal work in the same place.

The duration of the posting was set at 12 months, with a possible extension of 6 months. After that time limit, the workers are entitled to stay in the Member State where they are posted, however, in this case, all of the host country's labour rules will apply. Furthermore, travel, board and accommodation costs should be paid by the employer and it may not be deducted from the employees' salaries.

The EU Member States have 2 years to adopt the implementation provisions in their national laws.
