Young Professionals in Construction (YPiC) is a networking forum for junior members of the construction industry. The forum currently operates in the central belt of Scotland and is aimed at providing a free and informal setting for junior construction professionals to meet their peers and develop relationships that will last and benefit their careers.

In recognition of a demand for such events, YPiC was founded in 2015 by Linzi Hedalen and Susan Currie of Maclay Murray & Spens (now Dentons), Andrew Marshall and Doug Pearson of architects 3DReid and Ryan Schofield and Jamie Birchall of BAM Construction. This multi-disciplinary committee ensures fair representation of the industry's sectors, resulting in demand for tickets from its circa 650 members.

YPiC events

YPiC holds events quarterly with a relaxed atmosphere for networking; a unique and quirky ice breaker that gets people talking; and a 30 minute slot for a speaker of interest.

A wide variety of informative and insightful individuals are invited to speak at YPiC events, providing attendees with the opportunity to engage with key industry names. Previous speakers have included: Chris Stewart of the development company, the Chris Stewart Group; David Stewart, Fund Manager at Standard Life Investments; Adam Frickleton of Michael Laird Architects; Gary Jebb, Director of Estates for the University of Edinburgh; and Bruce Patrick of Savills UK Investment, to name but a few.

Getting involved

There are a number of ways of getting involved with YPiC, including: coming along to an event, details of which are published on the website: www.ypic.org.uk encouraging your junior colleagues to attend; becoming a sponsor; or offering yourself as a speaker.

Should you be interested in getting involved with YPiC, be it as an attendee, a sponsor or a speaker, or if you would like to discuss the possibility of future events in your area, please contact Linzi Hedalen at linzi.hedalen@dentons.com or on 0131 228 7204.
