CRTC Interprets Foreign-Ownership Restrictions

Recent Copyright Decisions
The Federal Court has recently confirmed or clarified several aspects of copyright law in cases that involve sports telecasts, encrypted signals and blank media. First, in two decisions by Justice Hughes, the Federal Court emphasized the importance of proving a chain of title when making copyright claims. In 1395047 Ontario Inc. v. Libel-Tourism Suffers Setback In Canada
The Supreme Court of Canada has denied leave to appeal from the Ontario Court of Appeal decision in the case of Bangoura v. Washington Post. The decision finally decides that Bangoura's Internet-libel claim cannot proceed in Ontario and cements an important precedent against libel-tourism in Ontario.
