Chief Minister Senator Ian Gorst has indicated, in a letter to the British Prime Minister, David Cameron, Jersey's intention to sign the Multilateral Convention on Mutual Assistance on Tax Co-operation. Geoff Cook, CEO at Jersey Finance, commented:
'The announcement by Jersey's Chief Minister is a welcome development in that it reinforces Jersey's commitment to transparency whilst reminding the UK Government that we already adhere to the highest international standards of regulation.
Jersey has a been a long standing participant in the OECD Information Exchange programme and only last month at our Private Client Conference in London, the OECD's head of Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes, praised Jersey for playing an important role in the Global Forum as member of its Steering Group in helping to shape global standards.
Jersey has a long term objective of achieving a global level playing field in respect of co-operation on international tax matters and it is clear from the announcements of the Chief Minister that Jersey remains committed to this objective and to participating fully in the debate on tax transparency as it evolves.'
