On 28 November, our Hong Kong payroll team participated in the Hong Kong Institute of Human Resource Management (HKIHRM) Annual Conference & Exhibition 2018. They delivered a session titled “Human Resources Management Solution - Go Digital”, attended by more than 80 in-house HR practitioners and students. Highlights included:

  • The increasing trend for organisations to adopt a Human Resources Management (HRM) systems
  • The help an HRM system can give professionals and staff to simplify the payroll process and overcome any payroll challenges
  • The benefits Employee Self-Service (ESS) technology can bring to payroll services

An HRM system can relieve much of the burden that HR departments struggle with every day. It alleviates issues with payroll execution, such as lack of flexibility, the inability to fully control data storage and time-consuming processes.

For the wider HR department, an HRM system can also take care of reporting, analytics, recruitment and expenses management. Its ability to do these things and more, delivers broad benefits to an organisation. Going paperless, faster recruitment, elimination of human error and lower operational costs are only some of them.

Another feature of an HRM system plays to the reality that people conduct so much of their lives through their mobile phones. This is especially true for younger staff, and how to effectively engage future talent was a key aspect of the conference. An ESS mobile platform puts employees in charge of their own HR issues. It allows them to create a personal profile, which they can maintain and update remotely. Employees can view payslips and tax forms online; and can access a calendar function that provides oversight of leave and attendance, in a straightforward format. Managers can also use the application to monitor and approve expenses, giving them full visibility and control.

This is just a selection of the benefits of ESS. Its high level of data security, ease of use, and multilingual support ensures that it is a platform that staff want to use. For HR professionals, the benefits of going mobile include more access to personal data, reduction of manual work, and streamlining of administrative tasks.
