The market of renewable energies has shown fast growth. With global costs driving down due to the increased prevalence of competitive tendering, the European Union institutions have set ambitious renewable energies production objectives.

Implementing the 2009/28/CE Directive of the European Parliament, France passed the 17 August 2015 Act concerning energy transition for green growth. This confirms the country's ambition to bring the share of RES to 23% of final gross energy consumption in 2020 and 32% in 2030. Simultaneously, the legislators set the goal to reduce the nuclear sector's share in electricity production to 50% by 2025, stressing the imminence of a turning point on this matter and a strong political will.

Major regulatory changes complete these goals and influence various areas, including the RES subsidy regime, the competitive allocation procedures and their simplification, the CSPE, the hydroelectric concessions system, the auto-consumption, the crowdfunding or the capacity mechanism.
