United States: Women’s Initiative Committee-Sponsored Events - Winter 2018
Last Updated: January 31 2018

The Women's Initiative of Kramer Levin is committed to creating and maintaining an environment where its women can flourish and become leaders in the legal community, both inside and outside the firm. Below are some of the initiatives and programs led by this group.

During the first quarter of 2017, the firm officially launched Women's Circles at Kramer Levin to provide peer support. The circles gather regularly to provide each other guidance on topics such as: mentoring, career progression, business development, and fostering community among each other. This program supplements the firm's mentor program and provides an avenue to improve and maintain relationships with other women of the Firm. In addition to informal social gatherings, many circles participated in the following:

  • Alycia Sutor of GrowthPlay, a highly regarded business development consulting firm that specializes in helping lawyers and law firms grow their practices, conducted a workshop for our Women's Circles. Participants learned messaging fundamentals for business development; created an opportunity for participants to get to know one another's practices and facilitated conversation so participants can identify opportunities for collaboration and support.
  • Tal Fagin, a former Skadden attorney and certified life coach, led a discussion for our Women's Circles on balancing the constant demands of home, family and career. Through this workshop, Tal helped participants identify and understand all the ways in which we hold ourselves back and encouraged individuals to feel optimistic, energized and empowered on the whole.

The Women's Initiative Committee hosted an insightful discussion on Mindfulness. Fran McConnell, owner and founder of The Balanced Owl, provided an overview of mindfulness and the practical ways to incorporate the practice at work and home. The discussion also included common thinking patterns of overachievers and alternative ways to respond and ask questions that direct our attention to the present and to more productive thoughts/solutions.

To celebrate the season of giving, the Women's Initiative Committee wrapped up the year with an internal women's lunch where participants donated women's apparel/accessories for the First Step organization.
