United States: Affinity Group-Sponsored Events
Last Updated: February 13 2017

The Affinity Group for Attorneys of Color is an internal resource for its members to address career growth issues through peer networking and interaction with senior partners of various diverse backgrounds.

The Affinity Group organizes a variety of internal networking events, including lunch meetings for its members and receptions for the entire firm.

On Nov. 1, the Affinity Group hosted Danielle Chang, entrepreneur and author of "Luckyrice."

While the firm's attorneys enjoyed a Korean feast, Ms. Chang discussed her path to entrepreneurship and how she has been able to showcase Asian culture through the lens of food and drink. Most recently celebrated in the form of her best-selling cookbook, "Lucky Rice: Stories and Recipes from Night Markets, Feasts and Family Tables" and her TV show, "Lucky Chow," airing on PBS, Danielle is a storyteller who shared her perspective on how food has influenced our culture and society.

Prior to starting LUCKYRICE, Danielle was the CEO of Vivienne Tam, a fashion and lifestyle company. As an entrepreneur, Ms. Chang was the founder and publisher of Simplycity, a venture-backed, global woman's lifestyle media company and print magazine with a readership of 500,000. She is also the founder of Xiao Bao Chinese, a Chinese language and cultural learning school for young children in SoHo, in partnership with the Museum of the Chinese in America (MOCA). Danielle began her career at the New York Times.

The Working Parents Affinity Group was created to address the issues these attorneys face through ongoing group dialogue, internal networking opportunities and outside events.

The Working Parents Affinity Group sponsored a discussion with parenting coach Laura Deutsch titled Transform Your Child's Eating Habits & Actually Get Them to Eat Their Veggies. Laura shared her secrets of how she got her children to drink water (and not even expect juice or soda in the house), eat lots of fruit and yes, even happily eat vegetables.

Laura Deutsch is the co-founder of Mommybites and the original founder and creator of Babybites. Since first starting Babybites in 2006 by handing out postcards to fellow moms on the streets of Manhattan, Laura has continued to use her business savvy, dedication and creativity to cultivate and grow Mommybites both nationally and in its flagship city of Manhattan. Prior to founding Mommybites, Laura worked as a middle school math teacher at the Dwight School in Manhattan. Laura holds her B.A. from Binghamton University and her M.A. in early childhood education from Hunter College.

The Working Parents Affinity group hosted Debbie Pincus for a discussion titled The Calm Parent, where Ms. Pincus shared a unique approach to parenting. Instead of going after children to eradicate their problems in an endless and piecemeal way, this program focuses on helping parents be effective leaders of their families.

Debbie Pincus is a licensed psychotherapist and coach with training in family systems and cognitive behavioral therapy. She writes weekly online articles for Empowering Parents and has a CD series and a book titled "Calm Parent AM & PM," published by Legacy Publishing Company. She has written seven workbooks on interpersonal relations.
