United States: Women’s Initiative Committee-Sponsored Events
Last Updated: February 13 2017

The Women's Initiative of Kramer Levin is committed to creating and maintaining an environment where its women can flourish and become leaders in the legal community, both inside and outside the firm. Among the programs guided by the group are the following.

On July 18, the firm hosted Grace Killelea, noted author and leadership coach, for a discussion titled The Confidence Effect. Grace led a discussion that moved beyond the research and statistics that focused on the four R's of her Half The Sky Leadership Institute: the power of relationships, the importance of your reputation, delivering results and why resilience is the heart of leadership.

For over 15 years, Grace has been keenly focused on developing, supporting, mentoring, coaching and connecting women. Grace has served as the only national facilitator of a premier executive leadership program for women in the telecommunications industry, and she is a highly sought-after keynote speaker.

On Oct. 24, the women of Kramer Levin participated in an insightful discussion on mindfulness. Fran McConnell, owner and founder of The Balanced Owl, provided an overview of mindfulness, the scientific research behind it, how one practices it and how to sustain a practice of mindfulness. Participants learned some strategies to incorporate a more "mindful" approach throughout the day in order to enhance focus and respond better to stressful events.

After more than 15 successful years as a corporate professional at a Fortune 100 firm, Fran became a Professional Certified Coach through the renowned Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching (iPEC) and a master practitioner of Energy Leadership.

On Nov. 3, the women of Kramer Levin enjoyed a champagne reception held at the flagship retail location of Kramer Levin client Opening Ceremony.

Opening Ceremony was founded in 2002 by Carol Lim and Humberto Leon, two friends from UC Berkeley, as a place to share their passions for travel, art and fashion. Inspired by a trip to Hong Kong, the two decided to leave their jobs in corporate fashion to realize their unique dream. What began as a single store on a quiet street in downtown New York is now a global community with outposts in New York and Los Angeles, a department store in Tokyo, a wholesale showroom, an in-house clothing line, a blog, and an e-commerce site.

On Oct. 20, Kramer Levin's women attorneys hosted a women's circle event at the Whitney Museum for women clients of the firm. After a tour of the exhibits, the women enjoyed cocktails at the Santina restaurant.
