United States: Frankfurt Kurnit Adds Tanya Forsheit As Privacy And Data Security Group Co-Chair

Los Angeles, CA — Frankfurt Kurnit Klein + Selz PC has added Tanya Forsheit as partner and co-chair of the firm's Privacy and Data Security Group effective July 5, 2016.  Ms. Forsheit, who will be based in the firm's Los Angeles office, joins Frankfurt Kurnit from BakerHostetler.

A past President of the Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles, Ms. Forsheit has been recognized as a leading privacy and data security lawyer by Chambers USA, IT Law Experts, Who's Who Legal, and Super Lawyers. The Los Angeles Daily Journal has twice included her in its list of "Top Women Litigators."

In addition to serving as Co-Chair of the firm's Privacy & Data Security Group, Ms. Forsheit will also be a partner in the firm's Technology & Digital Media, Advertising, and Litigation Groups.

Ms. Forsheit represents multi-national and emerging companies in the media, entertainment, consumer products, healthcare, technology and professional services industries. She counsels clients facing data security breaches and defends against allegations that they mishandled sensitive customer or employee information. She advises on the protection, storage and monetization of confidential data, including privacy policies, mobile apps, cloud computing, SaaS, smart devices and data analytics. She has advised on more than 100 data security breaches and regularly appears in federal and state court litigation, and has advised clients in matters before the Federal Trade Commission and California and other state Attorneys General. 

Ms. Forsheit's recent work includes successfully representing Medversant Technologies LLC, a leader in healthcare provider data management, in obtaining denial of class certification in a Telephone Consumer Protection Act class action seeking more than $40 million. She also recently represented the Center for Democracy & Technology on a friend-of-the-court brief challenging the government's retention of digitally copied data beyond the scope of a warrant under the Fourth Amendment.

Ms. Forsheit lectures widely on technology law topics and has been quoted on privacy and data security in publications such as the Los Angeles Times, Forbes, ComputerWorld, Venture Beat, and Law360. Ms. Forsheit is a graduate of Duke University (AB, cum laude, 1994) and University of Pennsylvania Law School (JD, 1997). She is certified as an information privacy professional by the International Association of Privacy Professionals. Ms. Forsheit is a member of the American Bar Association (Science and Technology Law Section), the California Bar (Business Law Section, Cyberspace Committee), and the Los Angeles County Bar Association (Entertainment Law and Intellectual Property Section).
