Local business owners have another opportunity to get familiar with the new Trade and Business Licensing Law, at the CayShop business expo.

Department of Commerce and Investment (DCI) staff will issue giveaways, and informational hand-outs on the new law, at its CayShop booth. The Chamber of Commerce-hosted event takes place from Thursday, 29 October, to Saturday, 31 October, at the ARC in Camana Bay.

'The law is expected to be implemented in the coming weeks and there are a number of changes businesses need to be aware of', DCI Director Ryan Rajkumarsingh said. 'Over the past several months, DCI has been doing a public awareness campaign using various avenues to educate the business community on the law. For DCI, CayShop represents an opportunity for business owners to receive more information and interact with staff'.

The law focuses on creating a level playing field for businesses and establishing greater efficiencies in the business licensing system. Among other improvements, it will clarify business licensing categories; create an appeals tribunal; improve DCI's enforcement powers; and allow Cabinet to provide business incentives.

DCI staff will be at CayShop during expo hours on Thursday from 5:30pm to 8pm; Friday from noon until 6:30pm and Saturday from 10am to 4pm.
