The Government of Ontario plans public hearings and will accept written submissions on its proposed Bill 148 "Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs Act, 2017."

Bill 148 alters Ontario labour and employment law in significant ways. It will make unionization easier and impose heavier burdens on employers, particularly in the temporary help and building services businesses.

Gowling WLG has registered to appear before the Standing Committee and will make further submissions in writing.

You can too! Send a written submission by July 21, 2017. You can also attend a public hearing or ask your Gowling WLG lawyer to attend on your behalf.

To register, you must go through the following steps:

  • Email or call Attend the Clerk, Eric Rennie, at 416.325.3506 or by e-mail at ERennie@ola.org.
  • Identify: your preferred city and alternative city, your organization, your proposed speaker(s), your street address, phone number and email address.
  • Note that speaking opportunities are not guaranteed.

Hearings will be held in Thunder Bay, North Bay, Ottawa, Kingston and Windsor-Essex during the week of July 10, 2017.

Hearings will be held in London, Kitchener-Waterloo, Niagara, Hamilton and Toronto during the week of July 17, 2017.

This public consultation may be the last opportunity to tell the Government of Ontario about the problems and concerns with Bill 148. Gowling WLG will be there for the employer community. Gowling WLG can assist with your in-person or written submissions.
