Further to my November 26, 2013 post "Be Aware of Privacy Precautions When Using Foreign Service Providers", the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada recently released a fact sheet for the private sector regarding the importance of protecting privacy when outsourcing to either local and foreign service providers (found here: http://www.priv.gc.ca/resource/fs-fi/02_05_d_57_os_01_e.asp). Although the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada has not issued any new suggested practices or guidelines with respect to using third party service providers, the new fact sheet underscores the importance of ensuring that organizations protect personal information when engaging any third party service provider, regardless of the location of that third party service provider.
