It's official. Most of the provisions of Canada's
new anti-spam legislation ("CASL") will come
into force on July 1, 2014. Organizations will
need to take immediate action to make sure that their
communications practices comply with CASL. Although there is
a new exemption to parts of CASL for registered
charities, it is a limited exemption. The exemption is
limited to commercial electronic messages sent by
registered charities that have, as their primary purpose, the
purpose of raising funds for the charity.
For more information about CASL, including information
on the final regulations that were recently released by Industry
Canada, see my alert "Anti-Spam Law to Come Into Force on July 1,
2014".
