On December, 27, 2018, a Provisional Act (Medida Provisória – MP) was published in the Federal Official Journal (DOU), which amended the Forest Code (Law n. 12651/2012) in order to extend the period of the Environment Regularization Program (PRA).

We highlight that the deadline for enrollment in the Rural Environment Registry (CAR) has not been extended, therefore, the final date of December, 31st, 2018 (Decree n. 9395/2018) is still in force. Since the CAR is a mandatory condition for joining the PRA, properties that are not registered until the end of 2018 will not be able to claim compliance with the PRA.

Registration in the CAR, which is a national electronic public registry created under the National Information System on the Environment (SINIMA), is mandatory for rural properties. For that reason, upon registration in the CAR, the real state registry of the legal reserve in the property is no longer mandatory.
