Keywords: National Energy Policy Council, CNPE, ANP

The National Energy Policy Council (CNPE), in a meeting of December 9, 2014, approved the Brazilian Petroleum Agency's (ANP) recommendation for promotion of the Brazil Round 13.

According to a previous announcement made by the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME), the Brazil Round 13 is expected to take place in the first half of 2015, most probably in June.

The areas to be offered are still in the final stage of evaluation and will be confirmed in the beginning of 2015. However, ANP has announced that the next bid round will focus on offshore blocks in the east coast of the country, which extends from the Pernambuco-Paraíba Basin to the Pelotas Basin. Nonetheless, the MME confirmed the inclusion of both mature and new frontier areas, such as the Pelotas Basin.

In addition to the offshore areas mentioned above, the Brazil Round 13 shall also include 10 onshore marginal fields, which were recently subject to a public consultation promoted by ANP. The inclusion of these areas aims to increase the participation of small and medium-sized companies, and it shall include fields in the Basis of Recôncavo, Espírito Santo, Tucano Sul, Paraná and Barreirinhas.
