Much has been made over the past year of the delays in the Parramatta Registry. We are pleased that these delays may be somewhat alleviated following the recent appointment of Judge Brana Obradovic as the newest Federal Circuit Court Judge.
On 30 May 2016, Judge Obradovic was appointed to the Federal Circuit Court of Australia and took up her new position as Judge sitting in the Parramatta Registry.
Her Honour Obradovic graduated from the University of Technology in Sydney in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Laws. Her Honour also obtained her Masters in Laws (International Laws) in 2005 from the University of New South Wales.
In 1998, Her Honour was called to the Bar and began practising at 5 Wentworth Chambers. She taught employment law, workplace health and safety, and anti-discrimination law at the then University of Western Sydney on a casual basis from 2000 to 2008, and practised briefly as a Senior Associate at Harmers Workplace Lawyers from 2003 to 2005.
Her Honour has practised in family law, anti-discrimination and employment law, workplace health and safety, commercial law, bankruptcy and equity.
She joins their Honours, Judge Donald, Judge Harman, Judge Newbrun and Judge Dunkley who currently sit in the Parramatta Registry.
It should be noted that given the current backlog, parties may still be looking at Court dates in 2018.
