The 2015/ 2016 Federal Budget is potentially significant for Transport for the following reasons:

  • Roads – spending will continue under the programs announced in the previous budget with $9.35bn of spending in 2015/ 2016;
  • ARTC – the Government has committed to a scoping study into the future operation and ownership of the Australian Rail Track Corp;
  • Inland Rail (the Melbourne – Brisbane Rail link) – the Government has recommitted to this project with a final business case and delivery plan expected in mid-2015
  • East-West Link – the Federal Government has committed to provide $3bn for the East-West link
  • Coastal Shipping Reforms – the Government will introduce reforms to the present Coastal Trading system, including introducing a single Coastal Trading permit for all ships to replace the current tiered system.
