You can now check if a Queensland driver licence is valid using a free online service provided by the Department of Transport and Main Roads.

The service has been made available as a result of a recent amendment to the Transport Operations (Road Use Management) Act that enables the Department to advise whether a licence is valid through electronic communication.

The service is intended for use by a licence holder, or a person who has been provided with a licence as evidence of the licence holder's authority to drive. It is particularly useful for operators for checking whether a driver's licence has expired or been suspended or cancelled.

To use the service, you need the:

  • driver licence number;
  • licence holder's first and last name; and
  • licence holder's date of birth.

The service only checks the status of a driver licence. It will not check the driver licence class or type, or any conditions imposed on the licence.

The service is available here: Check driver licence status
