As we expected, the legislation to implement a new regime for charities in Australia has now come into effect very soon after its passage through Parliament.

The Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission Act 2012 and the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (Consequential and Transitional) Act 2012 were assented to on Monday 3 December, and the majority of the Acts came into operation immediately upon that assent.
